Smoke Detector Drive for Feltonville Families
I am a teacher in a neighborhood in Philadelphia called Feltonville. Last week, a mother and her 3 children (one of whom I taught) perished in a fire in their home overnight. There was only 1 smoke detector in the house (in the basement) and it didn't have a battery. After this, one of our teachers who was very sickened by this (we all were) decided to take an informal poll at school. Approximately 150-200 students said they know FOR A FACT that they do not have a working smoke detector in their house. This teacher decided he needed to do something. He decided to start a drive to collect smoke detectors to give to our students. In addition to this, we are having the Philadelphia FD come into school to teach the students about fire safety this week. I would really appreciate it if any of you would be able to help us out by donating either smoke detectors or even a small amount of money that we can put towards smoke detectors to help our students stay safe.
